USE CASES
Make sure someone knows how to care for your pet if you can’t be there.
If you’re hospitalized, injured, suddenly unreachable, or if you pass away, someone you trust may need to step in without being able to ask you questions.
Cotl helps you prepare Care Notes for that person in advance, so they know what your pet needs and how to love them like you do.
CAPTURE WHAT MAKES YOUR PET SPECIAL
Build it once. Have peace of mind, no matter what.
Keep what matters about your pet in one current profile, then use it to create Care Notes for each person your pet mind depend on.
If something unexpected happens, your pet won’t be something left to “figure out.”
Your pet deserves more than “they’ll figure it out.”
A family member may know your pet well but not know where the medication is kept. A friend may be willing to help but not recognize the signs that your pet is in pain.
They may know the feeding schedule but not know what comforts your pet, which treats your pet loves, or when a change in behavior means it’s time to call the vet.
Preparing those details now means your pet won’t be left to guesswork.
Share the things that make your pet’s life so special
Include the current routine, food, medication, bathroom needs, mobility support, and anything else that should continue without interruption.
Explain their fears, comfort routines, favorite nap spots, the toys that bring them joy, and the small signs that tell you something is wrong.
Share the veterinarian, emergency clinic, backup contacts, and anyone else who should be involved if you can’t be reached.
Explain what may require immediate help and what the person should do if your absence lasts longer than expected.
Take it one step at a time
Cotl guides you through everything you might want to share. Start with the essentials, then come back later to think through the “good to knows” and the proactive planning that makes you a super pet parent.
Cotl also helps you review what may be missing or out of date. That way your pet’s information stays fresh. You can have peace of mind that your pet will be known, no matter what.
Give them access before they need it
Create Care Notes for the people you trust, and share them now so everyone is prepared.
They can keep a downloaded PDF or, with Cotl Core, you can share a live link that stays connected to the information you maintain in Cotl.
Your trusted person does not need a Cotl account to access the information you’ve shared.
Questions about emergency planning for your pet
-
Honestly, the more information you include, the better.
Include your pet’s immediate care, medication, health needs, veterinary contacts, identification, safety risks, and the people who should be contacted.
Also include the routines, fears, comfort needs, warning signs, and other details that help someone understand your pet as an individual.
-
Share your emergency Care Notes with someone you trust. Someone who will care for your pet if you can’t, or someone who will make sure your pet has a loving home.
That might be a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a fellow pet lover.
If you’re not sure who that will be, reach out to us. We’re happy to help you think about these difficult proactive planning questions. -
A Google Doc gives you a blank page.
Cotl helps you think through what another person may need to know, keeps those details with your pet’s profile, and helps you keep that information organized and up to date.
If something changes, update your pet’s information instead of tracking down and rewriting every set of instructions. If you subscribe to our Cotl Core premium plan, the links you’ve shared will automatically include your pet’s updated information.
-
Without a plan, a lot of it is left to guesswork. We all hope family or friends would continue to love our pets, and we can have even greater peace of mind by documenting our wishes now.

No. You can download the Care Notes as a PDF or share them through a live link that your pet sitter can access on their computer or their phone’s web browser. Your backup contact does not need a Cotl account to read them.
-
They’ll sees the information you choose to include in their Care Notes, not your pet’s entire profile. You can share the routines, medications, behaviors, contacts, and other details relevant to that sitter and stay.
With our Cotl Core premium plan, you can also share live links that make sure you sitter sees up-to-date information, and you can control when the person has access to that information. For emergency backup planning, we recommend keeping those links on indefinitely. You can always switch them off in the future for any reason.
-
You can download the Care Notes as a PDF and send the file yourself. Premium members can also share Care Notes through a live link.
-
Update the information in your Cotl Pet Profile. If you shared a live link, your sitter can see the current information included in those Care Notes. If you shared a PDF, download and send the updated version.
